ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier in Bangladesh: Netherlands Women 148 for 4 beat Zimbabwe Women 145 all out

Zimbabwe women’s national team lost to Netherlands by six wickets in their first match a group A ICC Women's World Cup Qualifier played at the Krira Shikka Protisthan in Dhaka on Monday.  The loss places the ladies at the bottom of their group with Sri Lanka at third position because of a more favourable net run rate.

Netherlands lost the toss and Zimbabwe elected to bat first setting a low target of 145 runs all out from 50 overs. The ladies struggled  to score against the Dutch who kept the screws tight only allowing for them to score at a under tow runs an over for the till their middle of their innings. The opening pair of Vice-captain Ashley Ndiraya (16) and Sinikiwe Mpofu (21) were among the top contributors to the total.  23 year old Nonhlanhla Nyathi was the top scorer for Zimbabwe with 29 from 97 balls. Netherlands’ captain Helmien Rambaldo used seven bowlers with Esther Lanser as the top pick of the bowlers with two for 17 runs in ten overs.

An aggressive quick fire half 47 runs from 19 year old opener Miranda Veringmeier was the mainstay in Netherlands’ brutal chase in half of the allotted overs. She scored a run a ball 47 runs featuring eight boundaries before she was caught and bowled by Audrey Mazvishaya.  Rambaldo added to the onslaught with 30 runs from just 34 balls. Leaving her partner Kerry-Anne Tomlinson (46*) to finish off the match unbeaten with Carlijin de Groot at the crease (6) after 25.2 overs.

Zimbabwe will play their next match against neighbouring South Africa on Thursday the 17th of November at the same venue.
