2nd PRAN RFLT20 Triangular played at Harare Sports Club: South Africa 209 for 3 (Amla 88*, Levi 37) beat Bangladesh 170 for 8 (Mushfiqur 50*, Peterson 2-16) by 39 runs
South Africa made a grand entrance to the PRAN RFL triangular series when they beat Bangladesh by 39 runs in the second match of the series. The Proteas won the toss and decided to bat and took full advantage of some wayward bowling from Bangladesh as captain Hashim Amla and Richard Levi plundered 70 runs in just 6.2 overs. This was before Levi drove too early at a slower ball and was comfortably caught by Ziaur Rahman for a quick fire 37 off 21 balls.
Amla then raised the tempo with some delightful strokes through mid wicket as well as breath-taking lofted cover drives in a career best 88 not out off just 53 balls which included nine fours and three sixes. Colin Ingram gave his skipper good support in a second wicket stand of 65 before falling for 29. Albie Morkel and JP Duminy then added the finishing touches with scores of 22 off 18 balls and 23 not out off seven balls respectively.
210 was always going to be a tall order and Bangladesh lost key wickets at the wrong time. The Tigers did have something to smile about however as captain Mushfiqur Rahim and vice captain Mahmudullah restored some pride with a fifth wicket stand of 61 with Mahmudullah making 34 and captain Rahim am unbeaten 50 off 32 balls with five fours and a six as Bangladesh finished on 170 for the loss of eight wickets.
Left arm spinner Robin Peterson who opened the bowling was the pick of the bunch ending with figures of 2-16 from his four overs which included a maiden.
The next match will be played on Wednesday, June 20th when Zimbabwe take on South Africa.
Scores.
