T20 MATCH: MIDWEST RHINOS v MOUNTAINEERS
At Kwekwe Sports Club, Thursday 18 October.
Result: Mountaineers (184/6) beat MidWest Rhinos (137/7) by 47 runs

MidWest Rhinos looked a confident side after winning their Pro50 match convincingly the day before and on Thursday Brendan Taylor won again what seemed like a good toss and put the Mountaineers to bat.

The Mountaineers got off a good start with Hamilton Masakadza and Kevin Kasuza smashing MidWest opening bowlers all over the ground. Hamilton scored 103 runs off 59 balls with six fours and seven sixes and his good innings came to an end in the 19th over off the bowling of Edward Rainsford. Kasuza made 35 runs off 26 balls and was stumped by the wicket-keeper off the bowling of Graeme Cremer.

Tinotenda Mawoyo joined Hamilton in the eighth over with the score on 79 and Mawoyo only lasted one and half overs before he was run out by Mike Chinouya after a terrible mix-up with Hamilton. Timycen Maruma contributed 22 off 21 balls and perished to Richard Muzhange in the 18th over.

In response to the Mountaineers’ mountain of a total, MidWest struggled from the first over with their most dangerous batsman Vusimuzi Sibanda dismissed for a duck in the first over by Shingirai Masakadza. From that point the visitors kept the screws tight on the Rhinos batters. Taylor was caught at short fine leg off the bowling of Hamilton Masakadza for just 21 runs.

Malcolm Waller’s poor run of form continue. He only managed 17 runs before he was dismissed by Donald Tiripano. Steven Trenchard carried his bat for 40 off 28 balls.
