LOGAN CUP MATCH: SOUTHERN ROCKS v MOUNTAINEERS
Day 3: 29 November 2012, at Masvingo Sports Club
Result: Southern Rocks (164 & 58) beat Mountaineers (159 & 26) by 37 runs.

Southern Rocks got their second win of the season when they beat Mountaineers by 37 runs, in a Logan Cup match played at Masvingo Sports Club.

Tawanda Mupariwa and captain Tinashe Panyangara – the stars of the day – needed just 15.3 overs to demolish Mountaineers for 26 in their chase of 64.

Day three started with Mountaineers resuming from 13 runs for four. Tinotenda Mawoyo and Hamilton Masakadza failed to trouble the scorers as they went back to the pavilion without adding anything on the board.

All-rounder Timycen Maruma top-scored with seven runs while young Kevin Kasuza scored six. No other Mountaineers batsman scored more than five runs, leaving the visitors reeling 37 runs shy of the target as they were bowled out for 26 runs in 15.3 overs.

Mupariwa and Panyangara claimed 10 wickets between them, with the former Matabeleland Tuskers bowler taking six wickets and Panyangara bagging the remaining four scalps.

Mupariwa attributed his heroic performance to hard work and perseverance: “I have been in the nets and working hard, running hard. It’s painful being out in the cold when you know you can make a difference in a bigger set-up. I am happy that we won the game but we could have batted better in both innings. Tribute  goes to coach Dave Houghton who is working with us on our positives.”

For Mountaineers, Mawoyo said he was not happy with his team’s batting display.

“We should have done better with the bat. It doesn’t matter what kind of a wicket we are playing on, we just didn’t apply ourselves well to the task at hand,” said a disappointed Mawoyo.
