The national selectors announced a 15-man squad which included Mash Eagles hard-hitter, Cephas Zhuwao and Matabeleland Tuskers’ Charles Coventry. The pair comes in as the only changes from Zimbabwe’s ODI squad, replacing Gregory Lamb and Craig Ervine.
Pakistan have not yet lost a match in their visit in Zimbabwe. They have already clinched the only Coca-Cola Test match as well as the whitewash victory in the Coca-Cola ODI series, the Twenty20 competition is the last format in which Zimbabwe have a chance to get a victory.
“I am glad that I have been called back into the side and I have been working hard with the various coaches at the franchise and the national team. My hope is that I make an impact and I can contribute to the team’s needs and game plan tomorrow,” said Zhuwao before a training session at the match venue.
26 year old, Zhuwao, made his Twenty20 debut in Nairobi when Zimbabwe played against Canada in 2008. He has had three international Twenty20 and one ODI appearances for Zimbabwe. His fight back into the squad was a build-up from the launch of the Stanbic Bank Twenty Series last year and he is set to be an additional piece in Zimbabwe’s batting line-up. Coventry, just like Zhuwao, is well known for clean hitting abilities which he believes are his second nature and more importantly necessary for the team.
“I am more suited to Twenty20 and ODI cricket. They fit my natural instinct to hit the ball and score quickly. I am happy to be part of this squad and I am looking forward to the games against Pakistan,” Coventry added.
