Logan Cup, Day 2 in Mutare: Mashonaland Eagles 267 v Mountaineers 142/5.

Mash Eagles bowlers Tinotenda Mutombodzi and Mark Mbofana continued their fine batting performance onto day two at Mutare Sports Club against a composed Mountaineers. The Eagles were 185 runs for seven wickets after their main batters had capitulated to some fine bowling from the home side seamers.

The pair formed a 114-un partnership from 38.4 overs. They scored patiently in a steady fashion picking up on regular singles and the odd boundary as they seemed more comfortable at the crease.  Mutombodzi was the first to depart after reaching a career best score of 62 from 127 balls, from a previous best of 34 runs. Shingirai Masakadza had him caught at second slip from a ball short of a length that got the edge of his bat on the defensive and went straight to Tinotenda Mawoyo.

Mbofana was dismissed four overs later bowled by Donald Tiripano who deceived him to leave a brilliant in-swinger that pitched a fraction outside off stump and nipped back to the stumps. His of 64 innings featured five boundaries and three sixes from 160 balls faced. That was the final significant contributor towards the Eagles’ innings. After Kyle Jarvis was caught behind, Mash Eagles were 267 runs from 91.2 overs.  Shingirai Masakadza was the pick of the bowlers with figures of four for 67 in 24 overs with eight maidens, also worth mentioning is Donald Tiripano’s three for 43 runs in 14.4 overs.
